Spanish Host Family / Homestay

Living with a Spanish host ("homestay") family is a great way to experience life in Madrid, learn more about Spanish culture, and of course, an additional opportunity to improve your Spanish.

AIL Madrid recommends staying with a Spanish host family for students who want to learn Spanish quickly  and get the most out of their Spanish course in Madrid. Staying with a Spanish family allows you to be totally immersed in the Spanish lifestyle and customs in a relaxed and comfortable environment conducive to study.

You will find your Spanish hosts welcoming, kind, talkative and friendly. Many of our students stay in touch with their Spanish host family after leaving Madrid and become lifetime friends.

You will learn the delights of Spanish cuisine eating typical Spanish dishes prepared by your Spanish family. Breakfast and dinner are included.

AIL Madrid’s Accommodation Advisors will ask you to complete a questionnaire two weeks prior to your arrival. This will allow us to identify your preferences and dislikes (such as smoking, pets, young children) and enable us to ensure you are placed with a suitable Spanish family.

Students should be prepared to adapt to the rules and ways of life of the Spanish family (such as meal times). You will be given your own keys so you are free to come and go as you please. Guests are prohibited.

Host families can be couples or single people, with or without children. If a student is unhappy in a host family for whatever reason, they will be moved, no questions asked.

A damage deposit of 60€ is required for stays in host families. The damage deposit is due on your first day at school and should be paid by debit/credit card. The guarantee is refunded to your debit/credit card on departure once AIL Madrid have received the keys and your room has been satisfactorily inspected*.
