AIL Madrid highly recommends the Spanish Tourism Exam (Certificado de Español Del Turismo) for those who either:
- work in the field of tourism and need to be able to communicate in Spanish or
- are interested in the topic and wish to have an official certificate confirming their knowledge and ability.
The Certificado de Español del Turismo exams are organised by the Madrid Chamber of Commerce working in collaboration with the University of Alcalá.
We offer preparation courses for both the exam básico and exam superior. The Español del Turismo course has two elements:
- 20 hours a week of Intensive Spanish – this course allows you to refresh your overall fluency and confidence in Spanish
- 10 hours a week of Tourism Spanish – focus on reviewing past exam questions, learn exam techniques and receive insider tips from AIL Madrid’s experienced Tourism exam teachers.
The Español del Turismo exam preparation courses are intensive and demanding. You will need to study hard and learn a lot quickly. At AIL Madrid your chances of exam success are maximised as:
- The number of students on the Español del Turismo exam preparation courses are limited to a maximum of 4 per class.
- The exam courses are designed to ensure that your study time is focused on passing the exam.
- Our Español del Turismo exam courses are run just before the exam dates to ensure you are fresh for the exam.

All courses are subject to an enrolment fee of 50€. This includes course workbook and materials, welcome pack, welcome lunch and free rental of a Spanish mobile phone.
Registration fee with Madrid Chamber of Commerce:
Registration fee for both Básico and Superior Exams is
130 Euros.
Deposit:
A deposit of €200 is required to confirm your reservation (plus the Exam enrolment fee payable to the Madrid Chamber of Commerce). Upon receipt of your deposit, AIL Madrid will send you your enrolment details.
The Español del Turismo exam consists of 2 parts:
1. Theoretical:
- Grammar (knowledge of syntax and lexical structures)
- Communication / vocabulary skills specifically related to the tourism sector such as restaurants, hotels, travel agencies etc.
2. Practical:
- Oral skills - presentations and speeches on tourism related businesses such as hotels and restaurants
- Business meetings, - face to face and telephone conversations with clients
- Understanding and interpretation of management instructions
- Writing skills - use of terminology commonly used in the tourism sector
- Understanding and interpretation of official documents
- Create and understand promotional documents
- Ability to fill in and conduct questionnaires.
The exam can be taken at two different levels
- Básico (Level A2)
- Superior (Level B2)
