Obtain the Prestigious DELE Certification on Your Gap Year

 DELE stands for Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera, or “Spanish as a Foreign Language Diploma”. It is the official exam for non-native Spanish speakers and is officially recognised by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport.

The DELE diploma is of great international value for those who are going to study at a Spanish University or would like to work in the Spanish-speaking world.

 
Many of our gap year students who are staying in Madrid for an extended period of time are keen on obtaining the DELE certificate on their year abroad. Passing the exam requires a substantial study effort on the part of the student. If you choose to take this exam, you can combine your gap year stay with preparing yourself for the final DELE exam, making your stay in Madrid more efficient.

Preparation Courses

AIL Madrid offers preparation courses as add-ons to the gap year program in Madrid.  There is a course for each of the three available DELE examinations, which are:
  • Basic Spanish Certificate (Certificado Inicial)
  • Intermediate Spanish Diploma (Diploma intermedio)
  • Advanced Spanish Diploma (Diploma Superior)
On your gap year program DELE course you will review past DELE exam questions, learn exam techniques and receive inside tips from AIL Madrid’s experienced DELE exam teachers.

The DELE exam preparation courses are intensive and demanding, but they certainly can be managed by students who are
on a gap year stay in Madrid. The gap year program provides you with a sufficient amount of time to prepare for the DELE exam.

For students on AIL Madrid´s gap year program, your chances of exam success in the DELE are maximised as:
  • During the time leading up to the DELE exam, the gap year program will give you sufficient time and opportunity to develop your Spanish to a high level;
  • The number of students on a DELE exam preparation course during your gap year is limited to a maximum of 6 per class;
  • The exam courses are designed to ensure that your study time is focused on passing the exam and so you will review past DELE exam questions, learn exam techniques and receive inside tips from AIL Madrid’s experienced DELE exam teachers;
  • Our DELE exam courses are run just before the exam dates to ensure you are fresh for the exam; and
  • Of course, at AIL Madrid you are never alone, as our dedicated teachers are always available to offer assistance during your gap year stay.

 

Registration and the DELE Examination Fee

AIL Madrid’s gap year advisors will assist you in officially registering for the exam at the University in Madrid, assist you in meeting the documentation requirements, and take care of logistics so you are fully focused on studying. This must be completed one month prior to the examination date.

The DELE examination fee (payable to the Spanish government) is:
  85€ for the basic DELE,
105€ for the intermediate DELE, and
115€ for the advanced DELE.

 

The DELE Exam Structure All DELE exams are made up of 5 parts:

Reading Reading text, then completing multiple choice questions to test understanding.
Writing Writing text or writing an essay.
Listening Listening to questions from a recorded dialogue or conversation.
Grammar and  Vocabulary Completing sentences containing blanks and multiple choice questions.
Oral Taking an oral test on a specific topic.

The exam results are presented approximately five months after the exam. AIL Madrid will receive a listing of the successful candidates and will notify all students immediately. Official DELE exam certificates will be dispatched by the Spanish Government (Instituto Cervantes) shortly thereafter.
