What qualification will I receive applying to the TEFL / TESOL Course at AIL Madrid? What is the difference between TESOL and TEFL?
TESOL TEFL dual award
The accredited TESOL / TEFL course is dual award, which means that when you graduate you will receive two certificates covering both TEFL and TESOL. This means that you'll be trained to teach in either a TEFL or TESOL environment.
- The EBC International TEFL Certificate
- The Advanced Certificate in TESOL (Internationally accepted by the British Council and language schools)
TEFL vs. TESOL
The main difference in the two teaching methods revolves around communication, which is the key to successful teaching.
The TEFL method is used to teach English to people in a country, where English is not the local language. Hence your class will have a common language (other than English), and if you are familiar with this common language you may be able to make an explanation in that language in case it is necessary.
The TESOL method is used to teach English to people in a country where English is the local language. In this case your class will not have a common language, since your students will be probably from all over the world; therefore you are forced to communicate in English or some other non-verbal form of communication.
Since we offer a dual award TEFL / TESOL certificate course so that you are able to use either teaching method.
Can I enroll for the TEFL / TESOL course if I am not a native English speaker?
An accent tolerant course
The style of English you use is not important as long as it is correct within its own rules (e.g. Americans can teach using correct American spoken English, vocabulary, spelling, etc.) You will be expected to teach the style of English you feel most comfortable with and use it consistently.
Do I need any preparation before the course?
To prepare yourself for the course you will be expected to do some up-front reading and exercises.
The pre-course work will expose you to some of the TESOL TEFL teaching concepts and keywords that will be used during the course, and get you started with English grammar.

After you have applied and sent your course deposit you will receive a FREE copy of our "Introduction to TEFL" e-book. We strongly suggest that you read through it in order to get up-to-speed with the concepts of TEFL TESOL.
