Before joining {{...}} the AIL team in 2013, he lived in Seville and Salamanca but, the moment he set foot in Madrid, he knew this was where he wanted to be! But if your real question is "where is he from?", and you might hear a rumor in the hallways about Beijing, he will tell you that he’s as Chinese as a Sevillano and as Spanish as a bowl of rice… or was it the other way around ? But the real truth is that Le is an indispensable member of our team, and it's a huge pleasure to see his smile everyday!

  • United-Kingdom

Marco was born in the beautiful city of Genoa. Since arriving in Madrid he's noticed that when he introduces himself to anyone new that they often refer to him as "Polo"! {{...}} As you can see, he's already customising himself with the Spanish humour and is enjoying learning more about Spanish character traits and culture. Gradually he is even taking on some Spanish customs and is proud to boast that his "tortilla de patata" is legendary! Marco loves a challenge and getting out of his comfort zone, so at the age of 20 he went to live in Bristol while studying English. However, he later returned to Italy as claims that he missed his family and in-particular his grandmother's Parmigiana too much! This dish is very famous in Marco's family and the recipe for his grandmother's Parmigiana is a very well kept family secret. Luckily for all of Marco's Spanish friends though, he knows the recipe by heart and has totally mastered it, which they regularly enjoy. Like any good Italian, he loves to have get-togethers with friends at his house, and since arriving in Spain he hasn't stopped creating opportunities to meet new people and is almost starting to feel like a local Madrileño with his extensive network. While enjoying the Spanish way of life, he has to admit that he does often joke with his neighbours that Telepizza pizzas are not authentic, and that they must go to his city to try the real thing! Whilst you can take the Italian out of Italy... in regards to certain things - you can't take the Italy out of the Italian!

She left aside the formalities of the law firm where she worked, renewed her closet completely by buying colorful clothes and applied for a AIL Madrid Spanish School vacancy to work managing Spanish Educational Study Tours. She is delighted with the decision she has made and confesses that the closest she is going to get to trials and bureaucratic hassles will be watching one of her favorite movies: A Legal Blonde. While she doesn’t have one yet, she’s still been able to fulfill her dreams of living in other countries like France and England. In her time abroad, she discovered delicacies like Roquefort cheese or fish and chips. Still, she missed her tinto de verano in Madrid and the beauty that the city has to offer. What’s not to love, with our dancing and food? In 2011 she decided to accomplish her biggest challenge: move to Spain and learn Spanish. She chose Málaga for its major sun throughout the year and its beaches. After a few years, she decided to settle in Madrid and started working at our school. Without a doubt, her favorite part of traveling is the way that other people help her to open her mind. Each person she’s met in her travels has impacted her mindset and way of life. She is a big believer in the “Slow Life” model and agrees that every moment should be lived to the fullest while enjoying the small things in life. She is a person with big goals but clear objectives that help her get there. If Leyre is put up to a challenge, she will definitely achieve it!

Diego Diego

Spanish

  • Spain
  • United-Kingdom
  • France

Diego fits all of the stereotypes you know of a Spaniard: extroverted, helpful, happy, and always ready to go out. Just like “Mr.Worldwide”, Diego is not afraid to leave behind his croquetas to try the new cuisine his travel destinations have to offer. {{...}} Since he was very young, he always knew he wanted to travel and live new experiences. When the opportunity came for him to work in Casablanca, he was already ready to go with passport in hand. He has a lot of great memories from his time there and can tell lots of interesting stories about the different life. Diego treasures living in the moment, since we don’t always know what the future holds. What we know at AIL Madrid for sure is that we are going to enjoy his funny jokes and bright energy for as long as we can.

Marina Marina

Student Care Team

Spanish

  • Spain
  • United-Kingdom
  • France

Marina, like some of our other colleagues, carries the “madrileña” title with great pride. Her perfect Sunday plan is a trip to the El Rastro market with patatas bravas and beers afterwards for lunch with friends. {{...}}The center of Madrid is her favorite neighborhood, even though they often give her the menu written entirely in English. When she was living in Ireland (Dublin and Athlone), people had a hard time believing she was Spanish. Her mix of blonde hair and light colored eyes made it hard to picture her as a classic Spaniard woman. Marina always responds laughing, as she thinks she might have also lived a past life with “guiri” roots. She describes herself as outgoing, a chatterbox, and a one of a kind soul. In fact, one of her unique hobbies is African dance. She loves the bright colors of the dresses, the flow of the music, and the adrenaline that the entire experience has to offer. If you happen to hear some hip beats and see smooth moves on Fridays in our hallways… it’s definitely Marina!

Noemí Noemí

Student Care Team Leader

Spanish

  • Spain
  • United-Kingdom

If you think of the most classic Madrid stereotypes (cocido, the calamari sandwich, or their unique vocabulary), Noemi still beats them all and is a true Madrileña at heart. When she was living in the UK, she realized how much she missed her homeland. {{...}}She went on a small trip to Camden Town on the hunt for a perfect tortilla de patata and, to no surprise, it was not what she was expecting. Noemi loves her family and her Spanish community, so she decided to leave behind the rainfall of London and head home to sunny Spain. For Noemi, the best weekend plans are under a comfy blanket with a good book or a heartfelt movie. But don’t think for a second that Noemi is only stuck at home – she’s also an avid runner! If you see her at our school site, be sure to ask what the best races are in Spain. Her favorite is definitely the San Silvestre Vallecana.

She was born in a small town where, from an early age, she discovered that she loved languages and meeting people. {{...}} Her village is very touristic and therefore, she was always in contact with other languages and cultures; in fact, this was one of the main reasons why she studied tourism. Whenever she is asked about the best moment of her life, she always talks about her fantastic trip to Ireland where she met her better half, who is Spanish speaking and Mexican. Thanks to him she speaks perfect Spanish and everyone asks her why being Italian she speaks with a Latin accent to which -to make the explanation quicker- she answers that she learned Spanish watching Mexican soap operas like "Rebelde" and "Corazón Salvaje". If you ever see her around school, ask her to recommend some, she's a big fan of soap operas!
