The Spanish, Teaching and Cultural Inmersion Program (TEFL Course): a teacher’s view

Hi there!

I’m Zoe, I’m part of the team here at AIL Madrid, and I am a Spanish and TEFL course graduate! Let me start by saying that this course was one of the greatest choices I ever made: it was fun, tough, and set me up for a fantastic career here in Madrid. I earned my TEFL certificate four years ago now but I still remember it like it was yesterday and see friends I made on the course on a daily basis… I even live with one of them!

Needless to say, as soon as I signed up (and after seeing my success after the course) my friends and family back home were falling all over themselves with questions. So to help to introduce you to all things Spanish and TEFL, I’ll break it down like I do for them:

What is a TEFL course?

TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) is the qualification, recognized worldwide, for Teaching English as a Second Language. Our course takes place in Madrid and is extremely intensive (Monday and Friday from 9am to 7pm). On successfully completing, the qualification stays with you for life and is valid throughout the world with TEFL graduates in Madrid being highly sought after.

What does the Spanish and TEFL Program include?

  • 4-week intensive accredited TEFL course meeting British Council standards
  • 36 weeks of Spanish (10 hours p/w), cultural activities and workshops (10p/w)
  • One year student visa
  • 12 month support with administrative and legal matters (permission to work, residency etc.)

Who is the Spanish and TEFL Program for?

We have had students on this course who are studying Spanish and would like to learn an additional skill, those on a gap year, graduates who want to broaden their horizons and make their resumes stand out from the crowd, and mature adults who are looking for a career change.

Can I work during the Program?

All students that have a student visa have the right to request a permission to work for up to 20 hours per week. All work MUST FIT around your scheduled class times but as we offer classes in many different timetables, this will not be a problem. Once you have completed the TEFL course and if you wish to complement your Spanish studies with paid English teaching work, we can guarantee that you will be successfully - and this is a 100% promise!

How much does the Program cost?

The price of the Spanish and TEFL Program is 3.600€. This program has been specifically designed for those students that wish to immerse themselves in the Spanish culture and for those who want to make Spain their home for at least a year. In short, this is the perfect opportunity for people of all ages who are ready to embark on an exciting Spanish adventure, all while developing professionally and getting to know Madrid like a local. As you can see, I loved my AIL Spanish and TEFL so much that I joined the AIL team and never looked back!
